Don Quixote voted best book ever - theage.com.au

A world panel of writers chose Don Quixote, the tale of hopeless quest, as the best book in history.

The Norwegian Book Clubs asked 100 well-known writers in 54 countries to rank the 10 best books in history, and from that information they compiled a list of the 100 greatest works of fiction.

``The winner ... with 50 per cent more votes than any other book, is the widely read Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, published in Spain in two parts, 1605 and 1615,'' the club announced today.

The club did not rank or give vote counts for the other books that made the list.
