Houston Press has an informative story. The fighting offshoots of SCA in Houston. SCA has a Houston barony - Stargate. I've never had any desire to whack big guys with padded sticks. There is a Houston large organization of people who do.

I have seen Darkon, a documentary about Amtgard's D.C.-area forebear on cable. The movie treats the participants seriously.

There are various other LARPs around Houston, which can be fun if you are into acting instead of watching TV or movies of fantasy adventures. OwlCon and ApolloCon have some LARPs during their cons.
