WorldCon 2008

A contingent of Houston people went to Denver for that. Starjewel had the most interesting write-up I've seen. Here are the Hugo winners. The local alternative paper had a nice cartoon comparing the two major conventions Denver is having. You can find other WorldCon reports using Google.

I am posting this late. Many people also just got back from ArmadilloCon in Austin. Here is a ArmadilloCon report from Martha Wells.

We have the new Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest winners. Top bad writing award goes to: "Theirs was a New York love, a checkered taxi ride burning rubber, and like the city their passion was open 24/7, steam rising from their bodies like slick streets exhaling warm, moist, white breath through manhole covers stamped 'Forged by DeLaney Bros., Piscataway, N.J.'" Write-up of the Washington DC writer Garrison Spik.

Some more:
Winner: Fantasy Fiction
""Toads of glory, slugs of joy," sang Groin the dwarf as he trotted jovially down the path before a great dragon ate him because the author knew that this story was a train wreck after he typed the first few words."

Winner: Romance
Bill swore the affair had ended, but Louise knew he was lying, after discovering Tupperware containers under the seat of his car, which were not the off-brand containers that she bought to save money, but authentic, burpable, lidded Tupperware; and she knew he would see that woman again, because unlike the flimsy, fake containers that should always be recycled responsibly, real Tupperware must be returned to its rightful owner.

Runner-Up
Like a mechanic who forgets to wipe his hands on a shop rag and then goes home, hugs his wife, and gets a grease stain on her favorite sweater - love touches you, and marks you forever.
Not sure I where on LiveJournal I saw this: Utilikilts video commercials. Watch the first three. I would definitely get me a utilikilt if the price was 50% lower.
